More Product Information:

Marble is a rock formed by the pressurized heating of limestone to re-crystallise the carbonates within it. The impurities in limestone cause the variation in colour of the marble, which is available in a variety of shades of white, yellow, red and green. Various mineral impurities like clay and iron oxide, present as layers in the limestone, cause the veins and swirls which are characteristic of many varieties of marble.  Good marble floor polishing products are available from a number of countries including Greece, Italy,  Spain, India and Turkey and now China and the Eastern European countries.  Marble floors have been used as both a sculptural and a constructional material for hundreds of years.

Many a museum holds examples of beautiful human sculptures carved from marble to make the most of its luminescence and transparent surface qualities. From the white tomb at the Taj Mahal to the leaning Tower of Pisa, marble facades present a sense of quality and luxury.  For this reason, many prestigious hotels will furnish their grand entrance foyer and rooms with marble floor and walls.  Marble floor polishing has a cooling effect when laid which is why it was so popular in hotter countries, in particular the Middle East.

Often used for worktops and vanity units, marble floor polish products are suitable for a range of uses in addition to the more traditional floor and wall tiles. Available polished, unpolished and tumbled, marble is a versatile material with a range of finishes. As with all stone surfaces, care must be taken to protect and maintain. This material is very sensitive to acidic substances, including vinegar, lemon juice and wine. Acids will dull the surface of marble, by etching it. On polished marble, the safest product to use for cleaning is therefore a ph neutral one like Fila Cleaner, which is a gentle cleaner that can be used as regularly as you wish. Other floor cleaners are available from Lithofin and LPT.

Using granite floor polish is necessary to maintain the shine and to remove the dirt and grit from the surface that will scratch and damage the stone. As has been said, and we make no apology for repeating it, acids will damage a granite floor polish and it is worth checking the ingredients of any cleaner that you are going to use to see if it contains any acids – these products are on the market, so avoid them!
